Wind turbines are getting older and need to be replaced. The Fraunhofer Institute WKI is developing a new method to recover the balsa wood contained in the rotor blades.

At some point, even wind turbines reach their limit of use and have to be replaced. While clear disposal or recycling methods exist for most components, the rotor blades are still an unsolved problem. At the moment, the few old propellers are simply burned in the cement industry's furnaces.
